Key Linius Concepts
LVS |
Linius Video Services is our SaaS core platform that comprises of APIs that index, analyze, and tag each frame in a conventional video file and transforms it into fully-searchable Virtualized Video that can personalized and resequenced on-the-fly based according to search criteria, user preferences, and other business rules.
LVS UI is our self-service web interface that makes it easy for you to:

Discovery |
The process where the Video Virtualization Engine™ indexes MP4 video source files video binary data to create Virtualized Video Asset, which can then be scanned by Artificial Intelligence, searched, personalized, and re-assembled. |
Enrichment |
The process of associating frame-level content metadata (e.g. granular information about words, people, objects, sentiments, or actions contained within specific video frames or timecode ranges) a Virtualized Video Asset. Enrichment metadata:
|
Search |
Using the Linius Search API and/or Search & Assembly Widget to find segments within Enriched Video Assets that specific content (e.g. keywords, faces, imagery). |
Assembly |
The process of using Linius Assembly APIs and/or Search & Assembly Widget to re-sequence multiple segments from one or more Virtualized Video Assets and combine them on-the-fly in a single video stream that plays back seamlessly for end users. |
De-Virtualization | The process of exporting a dynamically-assembled video (which may be comprised of segments from multiple videos) as a single, newly-rendered MP4 file. |
Asset Management |
The general workflow for managing a library of Virtualized Video content, including:
You can manage your Assets using either Linius APIs or through the LVS self-service platform UI. |
Terminology
The following terminology is used in our API specifications, LVS user interface, how-to guides and tutorials.
Categories
|
Term
|
---|---|
Enrichment |
AI (Artificial Intelligence) Service - An Enrichment Partner that can scan your video files to automatically associate frame-level metadata (e.g. recognized faces, keywords, brands, sentiments) with Virtualized Video Assets. |
Enrichment | Alias - A name attached to an AI-detected face (typically the person's real name). |
General |
|
Assembly | Assembled Video - A video comprised of re-sequenced segments from one or more Virtualized Video Assets. |
Discovery, Enrichment, Assembly |
Asset - In Linius technology and documentation, we use the term "Asset" to describe a Virtualized Video record that is associated with:
Please note: The term "Asset" does not refer to the video source itself. |
Enrichment | Brand(s) - In Linius technology and documentation, this generally refers to AI-detected logos and company names. |
Discovery | Codec - A format used for compressing/decompressing video & audio data streams. Linius supports most codecs used within MP4 wrappers (see Source File requirements). |
Search | Confidence - A measurement used by our Search APIs to indicate search results' likely relevance to the end-user's search criteria. This measurement may be used a factor in sorting search results. |
Discovery | Container - In Linius technology and documentation, this refers to the MP4 wrapper used in Discoverable source files. |
Discovery | Discover API - Set of Linius endpoints used for creating Virtual Video assets from MP4 source assets and managing a library of video content (e.g. naming/renaming, tagging, deleting assets). |
Discovery | Duration - Length of a video in hours, minutes, seconds, and frames. |
Widgets | Embed page - In Linius technology and documentation, this generally refers to a page that displays a Widget (e.g. our Search & Assembly Widget) within an iFrame. |
Enrichment |
Enrichment Partner - A 3rd party (i.e. non-Linus) provider of video metadata. This may be an integrated AI Service or a company that can provide timecode-based XML data feeds. |
Enrichment, Search | Faces - You can create searchable segments within a video that contain one or more faces that you have manually identified or that have been automatically identified by an AI service. |
Assembly | Frames - In the Assembly API, a Frame is a playable object that you can use as a clip within a dynamically-assembled video or a manually sequenced playlist. It is comprised of: a specific timecode range within a single Virtualized Video asset, a Frame name, Frame tags and an optional thumbnail. |
Assembly | Interstitial Assets: Short segments (e.g. advertising spots) that are dynamically inserted into a single "feature" asset (e.g. a television show or movie). |
Assembly |
Keyframe: A frame within a video that contains all the data for a complete picture (as opposed to intermediate or "in-between" frames, which may only contain data about the elements of an image that have changed between keyframes). Typically, the first frame in a new scene or camera shot is marked by a keyframe. In general, the higher your video files' keyframe density, the more precisely you can define the start/end points of the segments in your Assembled videos and playlists. |
